Trusting Yourself Without Needing Permission

There comes a moment in many of our lives when we realise we've been waiting.

Waiting until we're more confident.

Waiting until we're certain.

Waiting until someone tells us we're doing the right thing.

Sometimes we're waiting for approval from the people we love.

Sometimes we're waiting for life to feel less uncertain.

And sometimes, without even realising it, we're waiting for permission to become the person we're already longing to be.

I've been reflecting on this a lot lately.

Over the past few months, I've published another book, recorded more meditations, continued my podcast, and begun writing another book. I've made decisions that have felt deeply aligned with who I am and the work I feel called to do.

Not everyone has understood those decisions.

And that's okay.

Because one of the greatest lessons I'm learning is that while advice can be incredibly valuable, there comes a point where we have to stop collecting other people's opinions and begin listening to our own inner wisdom.

For many of us, trusting ourselves doesn't come naturally.

We're taught to seek approval.

To ask what everyone else thinks.

To make sure we're doing the "right" thing.

There's nothing wrong with asking for guidance.

But when every decision depends on someone else's reassurance, we slowly lose touch with the quiet wisdom that already lives within us.

Your intuition rarely shouts.

It doesn't demand attention or insist that you listen.

It whispers.

It nudges.

It gently invites you towards what feels true.

The challenge is that it's difficult to hear those whispers when the voices around us become louder than the one within us.

Trusting yourself doesn't mean you'll never make mistakes.

It doesn't mean you'll always feel confident.

And it certainly doesn't mean everyone will agree with your choices.

It simply means you're willing to honour what feels true for you, even when the path ahead isn't completely clear.

I've discovered that certainty isn't what creates confidence.

Action does.

Every small step you take in alignment with your values strengthens your trust in yourself.

One conversation.

One decision.

One boundary.

One creative idea.

One quiet act of courage.

Over time, those small moments become the foundation of a life that feels authentic—not because it's perfect, but because it's yours.

So if you've been waiting for someone to tell you it's okay to change, to create, to rest, to speak your truth, or to follow a dream that's been quietly sitting on your heart...

Perhaps this is your reminder.

The permission you've been waiting for has never belonged to someone else.

It has always been yours.

A Gentle Reflection for You

Take a moment to ask yourself:

  • Where am I waiting for permission?

  • What do I already know to be true?

  • What is one gentle step I could take this week that feels aligned with my heart?

You don't need the whole plan.

You don't need every answer.

You simply need the willingness to trust yourself enough to take the next step.

One gentle step at a time.
